> Buys/licenses acquisitions directly from independent producers However, more often than not acquisions are purchased directly from distributors. "On Occasion" we will licence independent production from those producers who don't have representation. An acquisition licence fee is negotiable based on suitability, quality, technical merit and how recently it has been produced. Acquisitions from both doc and drama genres, one-offs, feature length, and series. Mainly acquisition centres on series that have "stars" attached and feature length productions which have had theatrical releases and/or significant press. Currently looking to acquire creative Canadian drama series. If you have suitable programming that you wish to be considered for acquisition please send a VHS copy and promo material to the attention of: Jennifer Craig, VisionTV, Acquisitions Department, 80 Bond St., Toronto, Ontario, M5B 1X2, phone: 416-368-3194, fax: 416-368-9774, email: jcraig@visiontv.ca. |

> Develops original programming with independent producers VisionTV provides significant support for Canada's independent production sector. From 1994 to 2000, the network spent approximately $13 million on new programs by independent producers. With offices in Ontario, Halifax and Victoria, VisionTV is committed to reflecting this country's tremendous diversity and to promoting tolerance and understanding between people of different faiths and cultures from coast to coast. We mostly fund documentaries, though the occasional one-off drama and feature length doc and feature length drama has been licensed. Most recently we have licensed two variety series and one religious/multicultural drama series. Licence fees for independent productions are negotiable. VisionTV funds some development with monies given in the $2,500 to $8,000 range. Pre-sale licence fees average between $25,000 and $70,000 for an one-hour one-off and between $9,000 and $18,000 per serie's episode. Go to the VisionTV Website: www.visiontv.ca and look up the Producers Guidelines for further information including contact name and addresses, proposal submission requirements, etc. VisionTV has helped many award-winning programs get off the ground - among them the documentaries Made in China, Shadows of War, CultureJam: Hijacking Commercial Culture, The Man We Called Juan Carlos, the series Quiet Mind, the dramatic short A Feeling Called Glory, and the acclaimed feature film Atanarjuat. Deadline for submitting proposals to VisionTV for consideration in the fall round of proposals is August the 22nd/03. (No programming wil be licensed for One: The body, Mind and Spirit Network before 2004). |

Types of Programming: |
One Offs, Documentaries - Series, Drama - Series We mostly licence documentary off-ones and series. Drama series are a "maybe" for us, and probably hold the most focus for us in the family or religious category. Music does very well on VisionTV and therefore we will also entertain pitches in the Variety Category. We often licence documentaries that come in two versions: the feature length and 47:30 length television version. |
|
Length of Programs: |
Half hour programs, One hour programs On occasion a producer has delivered both a 90 minute version (for festivals) and a 47:30 minute television version from the licence monies. Lengths are 47:30 and 23:50 unless otherwise specified in a contractual agreement. |
|
Broad Subjects of Interest: |
Adventure, Biographies, Comedy, History, Humanities, Lifestyle, Music and Arts, Nature, Reality, Religion, Romance, Travel VisionTV's core mandate is to deliver inspirational, insightful,
and original television that explores the many Currently VisionTV is looking for one-off documentaries or limited documentary series of 47:30 minutes in length and which have elements of history, mystery, travel and treasure with a religious focus. These documentaries may be POV or non POV but all should have a strong and engaging narrative. All the above checked categories are of interest to us. Comedy and music content continue to be underscribed in our doc
schedule. Documentaries on social justice, humanitarian issues and the
developing world continue to have an important place in VisionTV's schedule,
however, with many in inventory and many in progress they are not our
current priority. |
|
Anything else: |

If you want to spend more time speaking about your proposals with me after the Pitch you can drop a note in my box in the Delegate's Lounge and I'll do my best to fit you in! Cheers. |
